How far would a crazed fan go to control the object of her obsession? That may very well be the question that Trey Edward Shults is exploring with his next, so far unnamed film starring Jenna, Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd, and Barry Keoghan.

There’s a rumor being chased down by World of Reel, so far confirmed by at least one source, that this mysterious new film is a loose remake of Rob Reiner’s 1990 film, Misery. In it, The Weeknd plays himself, a famous singer, and Jenna plays his deranged stalker fan. To make things more interesting, last summer Jenna posted a picture of the house being used during production, and it’s practically the same one as in “Misery.”

The still-untitled film would also begin with an infamous, real-life incident that occurred to The Weeknd in 2015, when he lost his voice during a concert in Los Angeles — he managed to get through four songs before he had to cut the show short. Where would the story take him from there?

Misery is a 1990 American psychological thriller film directed by Rob Reiner, based on Stephen King’s 1987 novel of the same name, starring James Caan, Kathy Bates, Lauren Bacall, Richard Farnsworth, and Frances Sternhagen. The plot centers around an author who is taken prisoner by an obsessive fan who forces him to rewrite the finale to his novel series. Cathy Bates’ character goes so far as to break her captive’s ankles with a sledgehammer to stop him from escaping.
